With Father-less homes at an all-time high and male roles in the family unit being diminished by modern culture, Modern Day Knights was created for men to stand strong against the popular culture mentality and be strong leaders in their homes and communities!
Modern Day Knights was inspired by Robert Lewis’s book, “Raising a Modern Day Knight”. The premise of the book and mission of Modern Day Knights is for fathers and father figures to guide their families and children to be self-sufficient adults who contribute positively to society.
Proverbs 22:6 teaches, train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. The importance of a father and his role in the family is continually mentioned throughout the Bible. The MDK retreat focuses on indoctrinating men in the traditional principals of fatherhood and being a man and passing the principals along to the children.
The first MDK retreat took place in the Fall of 2000 and there are two retreats each year.
Traditionally the MDK program has been held at Sunday Bluff Lodge in the Ocala National Forest bi-annually in the Fall and Spring.
We recently have incorporated a Father / Kids retreat in which Fathers can bring both their sons and daughters. This retreat has been extremely popular and is typically held at the Word of Life Retreat center in Hudson, Florida.
The activities at the MDK retreats are incredible. Depending on the location, activities range from canoeing/kayaking, target shooting, airsoft range, rock wall, zip-line, confidence course, team building activities, prayer walk, etc…
The MDK food is even better. The cost of the MDK retreat has not changed in 10 years and is $40/person which includes all activities, five meals and access to a camp site (must bring own tent). There is always access to bathrooms and showers and electricity.
